Job Description
- Responsible for oversight of hospital-wide Quality, Infection Prevention,
Risk Management and Patient Safety.
- Responsible for identification, investigation, reporting, prevention and
prevention of healthcare associated infections (HAIs) and healthcare acquired
conditions (HACs) among patients and personnel.
- Plans, implements and facilitates performance improvement activities focusing
on quality improvement and infection prevention to meet the needs of the hospital.
- Provides education to medical staff, hospital staff and Governing Body.
Acts as resource person to administrative team, department managers and
medical staff.
- Assists managers with departmental quality and infection prevention preparation
for all regulatory surveys, i.e. Joint Commission, State Licensing Review,
and CMS Validation Surveys.
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
- Ability to facilitate performance improvement activities throughout the
hospital, including Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode Effect and Analysis.
- Demonstrates effective organizational skills through ongoing interaction
with Chairpersons, department managers, administrative team and Governing
Body to assist in facilitating the hospital-wide quality and infection
prevention programs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current methodology and practices related to
quality and infection prevention and maintains awareness of changes in
the regulations and requirements by accrediting bodies.
- Communicates professionally and clearly to physicians, staff, Quality Board
and other team members.
- Accurately demonstrates use of computer systems to track performance data,
document occurrences, medical staff review functions, committee review/actions
and compiles reports accordingly.
- Investigates infections housewide related to patient and hospital personnel.
- Monitors proper use of germicides, cleaning products, antiseptics and disinfectants
in use throughout the facility.
- Prepares statistics and other pertinent data and reports to the Infection
Prevention Committee at least quarterly.
- Submits community risk assessment for Infection Prevention Committee approval
on an annual basis.
Qualifications

High School diploma with 5 years of applicable cumulative job-specific
experience with 2 of those years being in leadership/management.
- OR Associate's/Bachelor's degree with 3 years of applicable cumulative
job-specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management.
- Certification in Infection Control preferred.
- Member of the Association of Practitioners of Infection Control and Epidemiology
preferred.
- Working knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, infectious diseases, aseptic
techniques, and current infection prevention practices.
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal Standards and Regulations
pertaining to quality and infection control practices.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Advanced computer knowledge.
- Word processing and database management preferred.
