Job Description

The role of the Hospital Police Officer is to provide safety and security of all persons, assets, and property of Daviess Community Hospital.

  • Actively engages in reporting and investigating calls of service to all persons by preventing and detecting all criminal activity.
  • Ensures proper performance and compliance with the departments' regulations, assists officers, and serves as a role model.
  • Responsible for enforcing all federal, state, county and municipal laws, including policies and procedures of the Hospital.
  • Responds quickly to calls of service, emergency codes, emergent and nonemergent situations, assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients, and all other situations deemed necessary.
  • Assists hospital staff with escorting, lifting, or standing post with patients.
  • Investigates incidents.
  • Writes accurate, clear, and legible incident reports.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and ordinances
  • Working knowledge of computers and various software programs (Word, Excel, CAD programs, fillable forms, etc.)
  • Current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain an Indiana License to carry a firearm
  • Ability to successfully complete all requirements for a Hospital Police Officer as set by I.C. 16-18-4-4.
  • Ability to meet all mandates as prescribed by the Daviess Community Hospital Governing Board as outline in I.C. Code 16-18-4.
  • Ability to complete all annual trainings and/or in-services provided by Daviess Community Hospital Police Department. (Firearms, Defensive Tactics, EVO, etc.)
  • Successful completion of Firearms Proficiency testing on an annual basis
  • Successfully complete, within one (1) year, the minimum basic training and educational requirements as approved by the governing board of the hospital and the law enforcement training board.
  • Successfully complete New-Hire hospital orientation and on-the-job training as prepared by the Daviess Community Hospital Police Department and/or Chief of Police for the department.
  • Successful completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier II Police Training
  • Must undergo a psychological evaluation
