Job Description
Provides direct and indirect supervision and coordination of care for Emergency
department and Emergency Medical Services.
- Responsible for direction of patient care activities and administrative
activities related to finance and accounting, marketing and promotion
services, staffing and personnel operations in the Emergency department
and Emergency Medical Services.
- Manages staff in the ED and EMS with the assistance of EMS clinical supervisor.
- Provides management of operation and EMT, paramedic and nursing activities.
- Consults with staff, physicians, and the Nurse Executive on nursing and
EMT/Paramedic issues and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure
patient needs are met.
- Ability to perform patient assessments.
- Uses the triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients.
- Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret results.
- Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration
based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
- Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors.
- Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify
each patient's age-specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
- Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates
effectiveness.
- Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring; identifies dysrhythmias and
treats appropriately.
- Ability to perform and interpret waived testing (point-of-care testing)
per Clinical Laboratory's and the patient care unit's policies
and procedures.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, and administrative team.
- Maintains records pertinent to staff and operation of the department.
- Resolves staff concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance
process as required.
Qualifications
- BSN preferred, from an accredited school of nursing with at least 3 years
experience in all aspects of critical care nursing.
- Current Indiana RN licensure
- Successful completion of critical care course
- Current BCLS and ACLS Certification
- PALS within 6 months of hire
- TNCC within 1 year of hire
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) within 1 year of hire
- CEN Certification for Emergency Nursing preferred
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Basic computer knowledge
