Job Description

Assists occupational therapy clients by providing rehabilitative services, under the direction of occupational therapists, to persons with mental, physical, emotional, or developmental impairments.

  • Verifies client information by interviewing client, reviewing and/or recording medical history, and confirming purpose of treatment.
  • Follows treatment plan in collaboration with Occupational Therapist and helps patient develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities by implementing programs involving participation in functional tasks, IADLs, ADL, sensorimotor components, educational components, recreation, and social activities
  • Administers occupational therapy treatment plan; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing functional and purposeful activities
  • Maintains patient occupational therapy records by recording client's progress for use by the occupational therapist.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Ensures knowledge of operation of equipment by completing annual competency trainings for specific age populations and equipment
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies and maintaining state licensure.
  • Develops occupational therapy staff by providing information; developing and conducting in-service training programs.

Qualifications

AA degree from a school or college approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Hold current certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Pediatric experience preferred

Current BCLS certification.

Basic computer knowledge

Comprehensive knowledge of physical medicine, occupational therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology.

Basic knowledge of therapy machine operation, maintenance and repairs of same.
